Twice Australian Champion Std Class,
15m class once, club class twice, and has competed in four World Championships.
Gliding to him means the chance to travel and meet new people and revisit old
friends. He enjoys the challenge of flying cross country especially in competition
with good pilots.
He likes - good, fair competition, doesn’t like - gaggling and accidents.
Tom Gilbert
Aircraft engineer,
Age: 55 Flight log - 28 yrs 2150 hrs
3 times Australian Sports Class Champion (second at least twice),
competed in 2 US Sports Class Nationals, World Air Games in Turkey,
European Club Class in Czech Republic and
World Class in Poland.
Compete in Std Libelle CK owned since 1985 rebuilt
from a wreck...
Tom runs a glider repair shop near Sydney with crew chief and wife Jane.
Ron Sanders
Airline Captain Age 52 yrs
Gliding Log: 29 yrs 3000 hrs
Ron is a serious student in the art of gliding with an excellent understanding of
weather training and tasking.
He acts as meteorologist and task setter at many Australian competitions in the eastern states.
International - Pre-world competitions in Austria, New Zealand and
World Class, Poland.
Last year Ron won the 15m class at Sth African Nationals
Peter Temple
Age 33 yrs
Gliding Log: 18 yrs 1800 hrs
Peter competed in Sports Class competitions for many years flying his Boomerang,
in which he also achieved triple diamonds.
He recently changing to a DG 200
Competitions: 3rd in the Barossa Glide Pre-Worlds,
Winner of the Australian Club Class 2000
Peter is the reserve pilot in this competition.

Beryl Hartley
Beryl has been gliding since 1964.
She owns, with her husband, an avionics workshop at Narromine, in central NSW.
Beryl is currently the President of the GFA, and the Australian FAI officer.
